Born and bred in the South Lakes, James ended up following a creative path to Glasgow School of Art where he studied BA(hons) Printed Textiles.  This instilled a strong sense of line, movement and colour into his creative output which was then fine tuned whilst completing the MA Fashion at Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design, UAL.  James also continues to lecture in Fashion Design and through his ceramic work explores similar themes that have inspired him through his fashion work.  Colour and movement play a strong part in his Action Casting project, but in essence the most important thing that connects fashion and ceramics is working with the parameters and concept of the vessel, whether that is for holding liquid or flowers, or the human form.
